Forklift License Course

Definition of a Forklift

A forklift or PILT (Powered Industrial Lift Truck) is a vehicle drawn, propelled and operated by mechanical, electrical or manual power, designed incorporating a powered lift principally to lift, carry or stack goods, by means of:
• A fork consisting of one or more arms which support the load; or
• A platform, or
• Any attachment or other mechanism.
Without limiting the above definition this includes forklifts, order pickers, side loaders, reach trucks, pallet trucks, platform trucks, straddle trucks, and lateral stacking trucks.

Forklift Course Information

Required Licenses to operate a Forklift

FORKLIFT OPERATOR CERTIFICATE (OSH)

  • If you wish to operate a forklift you are required to have a current Work Safe NZ certificate (OSH). Our forklift course  include theory on basic forklift specifications, load centers, stability, general safety – do’s and don’ts of forklift operating and a practical session designed for  handling situations faced in every day forklift operation such as loading / unloading trucks and safely handling the loads.

FORKLIFT ENDORSEMENT (F)

  • If you drive a forklift on the road you must have a F endorsement on your driver licence.
Class 1 driver licence (with an F endorsement) covers forklifts with a gross laden weight of up to 18,000Kgs.
Class 2 driver licence (with an F endorsement) covers forklifts with a gross laden weight exceeding 18,000Kgs

*** The  definition of a road for the application of transport laws is very broad. It includes not only streets and highways, but any place the public has access to, including bridges, culverts, beaches, riverbeds, reserve lands, wharf’s and road shoulders (whether as of right or not). If you drive a forklift in any of these areas, the rules relating to registration, licensing and general driver behavior all apply.
